Hold the Date! Inaugural Signature Event PlannedPlease be sure to hold the date! On November 8, 2008 the Madison Public Library Foundation is having what we expect will be an annual signature fundraising event for MPLF — Conversation and Cocktails. Conversation and Cocktails will be held at the Blackhawk Country Club on November 8 at 5:30 p.m. The evening will honor Judith Plaenert Olson, outgoing MPL Foundation President, for her 14 years of dedicated service to the Foundation, and a conversation with our keynote speaker, Dr. Dipesh Navsaria. Dr. Navsaria is a resident physician in pediatrics at American Family Children’s Hospital. Dr. Navsaria, an M.D. with training in children’s librarianship, is known to pass out “Prescriptions to Read” to every child he sees. He serves as medical director of the Reach Out and Read program at UW’s student-run free clinic, MEDIC. Additionally, he founded and directs the Reach Out and Read programs at Access Community Health Center (adjacent to South Madison Branch), two UW Health Clinics, the Meriter Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the American Family Children’s Hospital. Reach Out and Read is a national non-profit organization that promotes the importance of early literacy, with a focus on reaching low-income populations. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Madison Public Library South Madison Branch, a 12,000-square-foot facility that will be constructed as an integral part of the redeveloped Villager Mall on South Park Street. This new branch will provide the community with state-of-the-art technology, meeting rooms, homework/study space, and much more.
